How a Piece of Gravel Became a Pendant to Cherish

Perhaps the rawest piece of jewelry we ever custom made for a customer had a sweet story that came out of a not so sweet backstory.
One of our guy customers was very shy about asking us to somehow make a charm for a necklace for him to wear. You see he was divorced and because he lived some distance from his ex-wife and child he didn’t see his daughter nearly as often as he wanted missing her terribly. The guy choked up as he overcame his shyness and talked to us about his little girl.
Well on his latest visit with her they took a long walk in one of our beautiful state forests near Uniontown and as they returned to the car the little girl told her dad she always wanted him to remember her and to take her on more walks like they had done that day.
She bent down and picked up a single piece of gravel from the parking lot and gave it to him as his promise to never forget her.
We wrapped that piece of gravel in a “cage” that followed the contours of the piece of gravel with sterling silver wire and fashioned a top by hand for him to wear it as his special charm.
We’ve not seen him ever again but the old timers at Abby’s that remember that custom job do so with a smile.
Note-We wondered how he could wear it in bed or with a dress shirt and are certain it must have hurt when it pressed against his chest!
